Taupo

Where Northland has its beaches and Auckland its great waterfront restaurants, Lake Taupō is the centrepiece of a region of spectacular volcanic cones and boasts the largest fresh water lake in Australasia (roughly the size of Singapore), making it the perfect spot for water lovers to enjoy sailing, water skiing, or kayaking.

But it is not just about the great lake; Taupō is also the gateway to the Tongariro National Park where you can take on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, often said to be one of the best one-day walks in the world, and a must for adventurous travellers.

Waiuku

Waiuku is a small town in the Auckland Region of the North Island of New Zealand. A popular holiday spot just 40 kilometres from downtown Auckland, Waiuku offers an impressive range of outdoor activities in the scenic surrounds of the Waiuku River. Popular among adventure seekers, Silver Fern Riding Stables offer popular horse trek adventures through the countryside and pony rides, as well as canoeing, boating and fishing on the river. The famous Castaways Resort is home to a wide range of things to do, from spa treatments to exciting 4x4 tours, archery lessons and oceanfront ‘glamping’. Finally, be sure to stop at the lovely Kentish Hotel for a drink or a meal. This recently-refurbished beauty was first built in 1851 and lays claim to having New Zealand’s longest continuous liquor license.
